Colleges That Admit Homeschoolers

Homeschoolers have been getting into college for much longer than you may think: Grant Colfax was not the first homeschooler to be admitted to Harvard even though the media made it seem that way in 1983. When I was at Holt Associates we published And What About College? by Cafi Cohen in 1997, and a new edition in 2000. We included a partial list of "Selective Colleges That Have Admitted Homeschoolers" as an appendix. It was an impressive list then and was often quoted from the book.

That list was a selection from Karl Bunday's www.learninFreedom.org, which we credited. (By the way, Learn in Freedom is packed with interesting information for independent learners.) So while creating some lists and material for a new website I'm part of (I'll tell you about that as the launch date nears), I learned that Karl has maintained and updated this list for 2013.

What a treasure this is: If you meet anyone who claims homeschooled children can't get into college, or will have extreme difficulty being admitted, please direct them to this page.

Of special interest for those who don't want to take standardized tests for college admissions is the page of Open Admission Colleges Admitting Homeschoolers.
